How Much Does TikTok Shop Take Per Sale? (2026, With Real Math)

It is the first question every new seller asks, and it has a straightforward answer — which then gets interesting. TikTok Shop's base commission is modest, but the number you actually hand over on each sale is bigger than the headline rate. This guide shows the full per-sale take for US, UK and EU sellers, worked out with real numbers so there is nothing left to guess.

The short answer

On a typical US sale, TikTok's commission takes 8% (reported since August 2026; TikTok's public table still lists 6%). The UK takes 9% VAT-inclusive; Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands take 9% (7% for some electronics and beauty tech). Once you add your creator affiliate rate — say 12% — the real per-sale take climbs to around 20% of the sale price.

The base commission, by market

Everything else is built on top of the commission, so start here. These are the rates in effect as of October 2026:

MarketStandard commissionExceptions
US8% reported (public table, rev. May 2026, still shows 6%)Fine jewelry 5%; pre-owned 5%, 3% above $10,000; new sellers 3% for 30 days
UK9%, VAT-inclusive5% for eligible electronics and select beauty; £0.50 shipped-by-seller fee per package
Germany / France / Italy / Spain / Netherlands9% since January 20267% for selected electronics and beauty tech; new sellers 4% for 60 days

A note on honesty, because we do this everywhere on MarginMints: the US 8% is reported, not officially confirmed — TikTok's public rate table has not been updated since May 2026. We use 8% in the examples below because multiple seller resources report it in effect since August 4, 2026, but your Seller Center's category rate is the final word. What TikTok takes on a $25 US sale

Let us do the math that matters. Take a $24.99 beauty product sold by a US seller, self-shipped, with a 12% creator affiliate rate — a completely ordinary setup:

LineMathAmount
Sale price$24.99
TikTok commission (8% reported)24.99 × 8%−$2.00
Creator affiliate (12%)24.99 × 12%−$3.00
Product cost−$6.50
Self-ship postage−$3.75
You keep$9.74 (39% margin)

Look at the first three lines again. TikTok and the creator together take $5.00 — exactly 20% of the sale price — before you have paid a cent for the product. That is the number sellers actually feel, and it is why the "8% commission" framing can be misleading: the per-sale take is commission plus everything that rides along with the platform.

Why 6% vs 8% matters more than it looks

If the US rate really is 8% rather than the 6% on the public table, the gap is $0.50 on every $25 sale. That sounds like rounding — until you scale it:

Order volumeExtra cost at 8% vs 6% ($25 avg. order)
100 orders/month$50/month
500 orders/month$250/month
1,000 orders/month$500/month

A two-percentage-point fee increase quietly takes $6,000 a year from a thousand-orders-a-month store. This is the part sellers discover in their payouts rather than in announcements — which is why recalculating your fee whenever rates change is not optional hygiene, it is where your margin lives.

The UK and EU version: VAT makes the take heavier

The UK's 9% and the EU's 9% look similar to the US rate on paper, but there is a catch: commission is calculated on the VAT-inclusive order total. You pay commission on the tax you merely collect for the government. On a £20 UK sale:

LineMathAmount
Sale price (incl. 20% VAT)£20.00
TikTok commission (9%)20 × 9%−£1.80
Creator affiliate (10%)20 × 10%−£2.00
Combined platform-side take£3.80 (19% of the sale)

And in Germany, where VAT is 19%, a €29.99 sale at 9% commission loses €2.70 to TikTok before the affiliate cut. If you sell into the EU, separate VAT from commission in your margin model — the VAT calculator does exactly that.

The take is not the same on every sale

Three levers move what TikTok takes from order to order:

1. Category exceptions. US fine jewelry and pre-owned sit at 5%, not 8%. UK electronics and select beauty sit at 5%, not 9%. If your product qualifies, you keep measurably more on every sale — worth checking before you list.

2. Your affiliate rate. This is the only part of the take you control directly. Setting 8% instead of 15% on that $24.99 example saves $1.75 per sale — the difference between a 39% and a 46% margin. The trade-off is that fewer creators will pick up your product, so model both scenarios in the affiliate calculator before you decide.

3. New-seller periods. The US offers 3% for the first 30 days (with a first sale within 60 days of onboarding); the EU5 offers 4% for the first 60 days. Both are launch windows, not permanent rates — price for the standard rate and treat the discount as a bonus, or you will underprice the rest of your product's life.

How to calculate your own take

The formula is simple, but most sellers never write it down:

Effective take %

(Commission + affiliate commission) ÷ sale price × 100

And your margin: (sale price − commission − affiliate − product cost − shipping − packaging − ad spend − expected refund cost) ÷ sale price × 100. For a fast version, open the profit calculator and plug in your real numbers — it takes under a minute and beats any estimate you are carrying around in your head.

Frequently asked questions

How much does TikTok Shop take per sale in the US in 2026?

For most non-food US categories, the take is reported at 8% commission since August 2026, though TikTok's public rate table (last revised May 2026) still shows 6%. Category exceptions include fine jewelry at 5% and pre-owned at 5% (3% on the portion over $10,000). New sellers can qualify for 3% for their first 30 days.

Is the TikTok Shop commission a flat percentage of the sale price?

Mostly. The commission is a percentage of the sale amount, but in the UK and EU it is calculated on the VAT-inclusive total — including buyer-paid shipping and platform discounts, minus refunds. That makes the effective rate slightly higher than the headline number suggests.

Does TikTok Shop charge per-sale fees on top of commission?

In the US and UK there is no separate transaction or payment-processing fee for most sellers — it is bundled into the commission. What you set yourself, the affiliate commission (0–30%), and fulfillment costs are the real add-ons that push the per-sale take well above the base commission.

What does TikTok Shop actually keep on a $25 sale?

At the reported US 8% commission, TikTok keeps $2.00 of a $25 sale. Add a 12% creator affiliate rate ($3.00) and the combined platform-side take is $5.00 — 20% of the sale price — before you have paid anything for the product or shipping.

How much does TikTok Shop take per sale in the UK and Europe?

The UK charges 9% commission, VAT-inclusive, with 5% for eligible electronics and select beauty products. Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands charge 9% since January 2026 (7% for selected electronics and beauty tech), with new sellers at 4% for their first 60 days.

How do I calculate what percentage of each sale I keep?

Subtract commission, affiliate commission, product cost, fulfillment or shipping, packaging, ad spend and expected refund cost from the sale price, then divide the remainder by the sale price. Run the numbers in a profit calculator before you set prices, and re-check after every fee change.
